The Problem · "Where Is The Love?"
Artists had the talent. Brands had the budget. Nobody had a place to meet.
Discovering creative talent online in 2019 meant scrolling through disconnected Instagram accounts, asking for portfolio links that led nowhere, and guessing at actual reach and influence. For brands, it was time-consuming and unreliable. For artists, it meant being invisible to the very people who could hire them.
ArtistsEverywhere came to Polcode with a vision: one platform where artists could be found, evaluated, and contacted professionally, quickly, and with real data backing every profile.
What We Built · "Can’t Stop The Feeling"
A full ecosystem, not just a directory.
Polcode took ownership of the entire product: architecture, backend, all external integrations, payments, and frontend. From zero to a live platform.
Each artist profile aggregated live follower counts from Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Vimeo, SoundCloud, and Pinterest automatically, on a schedule, using a queued CLI system built to handle API rate limits gracefully. Artists were ranked across six tiers based on total social reach, from under 5K followers to over 1 million.
Brands got a searchable, filterable directory by profession, location, influence tier, and keyword, with infinite scroll and the ability to download a full Media Kit for any artist they were interested in.
The Hard Parts · "Stronger"
The features users never see — and the ones that made the product.
Generating a PDF sounds simple. Generating one with server-side chart rendering, multi-layer layout, dynamic font scaling, and live social data — that's a different project entirely.
The Media Kit was the product's flagship feature: a one-click PDF that presented an artist's portfolio, biography, follower stats, and social trend graphs in a polished, print-ready document. Under the hood, this required rendering Highcharts graphs in a headless PhantomJS browser on the server, then compositing them into a multi-layer PDF with precise image scaling, text overflow handling, and conditional font sizing.
Follower analytics went beyond raw counts; the system tracked weekly and monthly growth trends across all connected platforms, calculating deviations in average growth and decline so that both artists and brands could see momentum, not just a number frozen in time.
Trust was built into the registration flow itself: profiles only went live after automatic verification confirmed email, at least one connected social account, a portfolio photo, and complete personal data. No manual moderation needed.
Business Model · "Money, Money, Money"
Freemium with a clear upgrade path.
Free accounts gave artists a taste of the platform, two connected social accounts, a public profile, and limited pitch messages per month. PRO and MULTI plans unlocked the full experience: Media Kit generation, directory visibility, and the ability to create sub-accounts. Brands are subscribed to annually. All payments ran through Stripe, with monthly and yearly billing options and a 12-month trial period to drive initial adoption.
The Takeaway · "We Found Love"
One codebase. Three products in one.
ArtistsEverywhere was simultaneously a portfolio tool, a social analytics platform, and a B2B communication channel. Getting all three to feel like a single, coherent product, rather than three things bolted together, was the real design challenge. Polcode delivered the full scope: from backend architecture to payment flows to the PDF that closed the deal.
