Fun in the Sun—Polcode’s Get-Together Trip
At Polcode, we know just how important after-work bonding is for creativity and cooperation. That’s why this year, like every other year, we went on a team building trip to celebrate our friendly Polcode spirit.
In Poland, the month of June has many faces. It can rain copiously, or it can be unbearably hot. You can also get some hard-boiled hail…or all three combined. Luckily, this year’s weather settled on balmy—perfect for what our team had in plans for the weekend.
Fun already began in the buses taking us to our destination, Fajkier Hotel in Kroczyce. We talked, sang, and laughed, eagerly anticipating to meet the rest of the team in person. After everyone arrived at the hotel and Skype voices and Redmine comments finally acquired their bodily forms, together we jumped into a series of inspiring workshops on WordPress, Magento, Laravel, Symfony, and RoR.
With our heads brimming with knowledge, we then gorged on late dinner and dove right into “Fifteen to One” game. Polcode’s spin on the game gave insight on many important aspects of the company. Our CEO, the head of HR, and sales director each told their share of the company’s tale. We learned about Polcode’s strategy and future, our projects and clients, and the company’s technological needs. We also talked about professional opportunities and development for our team. The game and the answers further underlined that Polcode is a transparent workplace where respect is one of its foundations.
After that uplifting experience, we reached the most anticipated part of our trip—the live action role-playing (LARP) game. Not only did we get to wear some pretty awesome fantasy costumes but also solve a few mysteries to find an artefact and win. The game itself required a lot of interpersonal skills as well as a knack for problem-solving. It was a perfect brain-stimulating experience.
Following closely behind fun-wise was canoeing down the river Warta, which proved that nautical skills of some of our mates leave a lot to wish for (steering a kayak forward is not, after all, as easy a task as it is fun.) Still, all of us finished the race happy, if somewhat wet.
When all the games of the day ended, in the evening, the time came for some serious dancing and singing. That’s right, dancing and singing! But in the world of devs, there wouldn’t be singing without technology. So our guitar-playing coders set up their iPads on tree stumps so everyone could see the lyrics. Yes, the majority of us might be software developers with a serious flair for geekishness, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a decent party vibe when we see one.
We believe a team delivers best results when they can have a little fun from time to time, regardless of profession. We cherish the time we spend together at work as well as outside of it. Plenty of adventures and quality bonding time gave us all a bucket of memories that’ll keep us energized and inspired for better teamwork.
If you would like to learn more about our team or are considering joining it, our HR team would be happy to answer all your questions.
